Should Utilities Have to Bury Power Lines?
Proponents say putting power lines underground could protect them from the prospect of bigger and more violent storms brought on by climate change. But others argue that there are easier and more cost-effective ways to prevent blackouts from storms.
This article offers two fairly tame positions in what is in many cases a heated debate. Under-grounding will increase reliability, but consumers aren’t ready to carry their burden of the costs. Of course, its interesting that the comments that do relate to power lines (and not the global warming “hoax”) call for under-grounding because it will be aesthetically appealing. In other words, we want to “protecting” the view is as important as protecting the lines.
